Compost, Gravels and Fertilisers

Compost and Gravels

We carry a large stock of various types of composts and gravels all year round. As well as the usual multipurpose compost we stock composts for lime hating plants (ericaceous), citrus, cactus, orchids, bonsai as well as different types of bark, peat and planting composts and growbags.

They are striving to find economically viable alternatives to peat which are available in sufficient volumes and capable of performing at the levels that you would expect from our products.

Humax offers a wide range of composts including multi-purpose with a premium formulation and is a favourite for many gardeners.

Melcourt is the UK’s leading supplier of mulches, growing media, play surfaces, soil improvers, equestrian surfaces, biofiltration media and more, based on bark, wood and other natural materials.

Fertilisers & Chemicals

Like most garden centres, we stock chemicals and fertilisers for many different applications. If you’re not sure what to use just as a member of staff, who will be able to give you advice. If you’ve got a garden pest or plant disease problem and are uncertain what it is, just bring a piece in with you, in a plastic bag and we’ll do our best to identify it and suggest a treatment.

MO Bacter slow release organic fertiliser is a granular organic fertiliser which kills moss, feeds grass and improves the soil all in one over a 12 week period. Not only that, but scarifying after you have treated your grass with MO Bacter will not be necessary and it will not burn plants in your borders if you should spread it beyond your lawn.

One of the major benefits is it destroys moss without leaving any of the unsightly black debris. Its effective ingredients are nitrogen, phosphate and potash 5.5.20 plus a bacteria (bacillus sp) which is found naturally in the soil but when added to fertiliser it consumes dead material like thatch and moss making it unnecessary for raking or scarification after treatment. The high potash content in MO Bacter destroys moss through secondary action. The moss over-feeds on the potash which then destroys the whole plant over a three to four week period.

Also, have you ever been annoyed at the stain on your patio or driveway after treating your lawn with normal fertilizer? You now have no need to worry as MO Bacter Organic Fertiliser does not stain stonework, patios or paths – a massive bonus!

Due to its unique benefits, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission have seen remarkable results in which 2 inches of moss was virtually eliminated in 6 months and they had no need for any additional work to remove the debris. Not only did this save them work, the headstones were completely unmarked!

MO Bacter Organic Fertiliser is a unique moss destroyer as it will not send your moss black and saves you from back breaking work. Lawns are left free of any debris with no need to scarify. Being organic it is not harmful to animals or children. MO Bacter is best used in the spring, or early summer, to eliminate moss and late summer or early autumn to stifle its winter development. MO Bacter is at its most effective when the ground temperature is 10ºC or more.
